CHITWAN, NOVEMBER 29

Around 50 per cent of the office bearers and central committee members of the CPN- UML were elected unanimously at the party's ongoing 10th National General Convention in Chitwan today.

Senior vice-chairman, general secretary, deputy general secretaries and some members of the central committee were elected unanimously.

According to UML Central Election Commission Chairman Bijay Subba, election will be held for 14 posts of office bearers and central committee members.

KP Sharma Oli and Bhim Bahadur Rawal will vie for the post of chairman. Despite Oli's frantic efforts to be elected unanimously, Rawal did not backtrack from throwing his hat in the ring. Ishwor Pokhrel was elected senior vice-president unanimously.

Shankar Pokhrel was elected general secretary unanimously, while Pradip Gyawali, Prithvi Subba Gurung, and Bishnu Rimal were elected deputy general secretaries unanimously.

UML's Central Discipline Commission and Accounts Commission were elected unanimously. Keshav Prasad Badal, Netra Prasad Panthi, and Bharat Raj Pahadi were unanimously elected chair, vice-chair, and secretary of the Discipline Commission, respectively.

Likewise, Pushparaj Kandel, Bishnu Panthi, and Shiv Adhikari were unanimously elected chair, vice-chair, and secretary of the Accounts Commission, respectively.

The poll process did not start as per the schedule. The party's election commission had not published final name list of candidates till 7:00pm.

Though the voting is slated to begin at 9:00pm, processing of candidates' names on the electronic voting machine is supposed to take around 10 hours, according to the technical team. Voting is expected to begin tomorrow morning.
