Haphazard waste disposal poses public health threat

Dhangadi, February 20

Haphazard disposal of solid waste in the streets and lack of proper waste management system have posed a serious health threat to residents of Dhangadi sub-metropolis.

Locals have been dumping waste materials into the open drains in the city areas.

Manohar Shrestha, a local of LN Chowk, said the sub-metropolis had taken off the covers to replace them with new ones.

The canals have been blocked as local folks dump garbage into it. “We repeatedly urged the municipality to manage the covers, but in vain,” said Shrestha.

Meanwhile, planning officer of the sub-metropolis engineer Dwijaraj Bhatta said they were working to replace the old covers.

He said the administration had taken off the covers to replace them with new ones and clear the drains. “The drains in the in the city areas will also be repaired,” he said.

The canals in front of Seti Zonal Hospital have also been blocked for want of covers.

Though the sub-metropolis repairs the drains each year, haphazard dumping of garbage has polluted the city areas.
