Hard to prove Belbari rape: Docs
Dharan, April 27:
Medical experts admit it is difficult to verify allegations that Sapana Gurung of Morang’s Belbari-2 was gangraped and killed. The primary report of the post-mortem of her body has them foxed.
Prof Dr BN Yadav of the forensic medicine department at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences said today it was difficult to find signs of rape on Sapana’s body. “The final report of the post-mortem has not come, and it may yield a totally different result,” Dr Yadav added.
According to Dr Yadav, tests are continuing in BPKIHS’ pathology lab to check for signs of semen on her person. “The test report will confirm it,” he said.
Villagers have alleged she was killed after soldiers gangraped her on Tuesday night. The following day, six villagers were killed when the army opened fire at a demonstration of villagers protesting her death. Around four dozen were injured in the incident. The army has refuted the rape and murder charges.
The primary post mortem report shows she was shot in the right side of her chest and that the bullet passed through the lung and exited from the back.
She was hit by only one bullet, Dr Yadav said, adding that there were no bruises or evidence of her resistance. He also said there was no bleeding in her private parts, as is usual in cases of gangrape.
The final post-mortem report is expected tomorrow, he said.
