The health ministry has also indicated that coronavirus cases might hit the peak during the months of Jestha-Asar of the Nepali calendar

KATHMANDU, APRIL 13

Ministry of Health and Population has recommended the closure of schools for one month in larger cities of the country including Kathmandu valley.

The recommendation has been made to the Covid-19 Crisis Management Centre (CCMC) owing to the rapidly increasing cases of coronavirus infection across the country.

The health ministry has suggested that classes for students be continued through the online medium during this time.

According to Minister for Health Hridayesh Tripathi, the recommendation has been forwarded to prevent the spread of coronavirus in younger population. He stated, as per the Ministry's analysis, the new variant of the virus has been found prevalent in people of the younger age group, including children, and also highly transmissible.

Minister Tripathi shared this at a press meet organised in Health Ministry today. He opined that with students being at home, the mobility will largely be reduced in Kathmandu valley, which will help to reduce the spread of the virus.

An official decision in this regard is yet to be taken.

Meanwhile, the health ministry has also indicated that Covid-19 cases might hit the peak during the months of Jestha-Asar of the Nepali calendar, which will be around the month of June.
