Traffic suspended on Kanti Lokpath and Hetauda–Sisneri route as flood and landslide risks escalate.

HETAUDA, JULY 13

Vehicular movement on two key road links connecting Bagmati Province's capital Hetauda with the federal capital Kathmandu has been suspended following continuous rainfall and growing flood and landslide risks.

The Makwanpur District Administration Office on Monday halted traffic on the Hetauda–Bhaise–Bhimphedi–Deurali–Sisneri–Kathmandu road and the Kanti Lokpath after rising water levels in rivers and streams and the threat of landslides made travel unsafe.

According to a notice issued by the administration, vehicles travelling via the Hetauda–Sisneri–Kathmandu route have been stopped at Chaukitol in Hetauda from 5 pm on Monday until 5 am on Tuesday. Traffic along the Kanti Lokpath has been suspended until further notice.

The administration said the restrictions were imposed to ensure passenger safety and minimise the risk of accidents amid worsening weather conditions.

It has urged transport operators, drivers and the general public to comply with the restrictions, remain at safe locations and use alternative routes wherever possible until the roads are declared safe for travel.
