Heavy rainfall inundates Nepalgunj

Nepalgunj, September 18

Life has been adversely affected due to continuous rainfall that inundated Nepalgunj Municipality and its surroundings early this morning in Banke.

Incessant rainfall has engulfed Gharbaritole, Newroad, Setubk Chowk and Dhambojee Chowk, among other places, in Nepalgunj.

Residents of these toles said that the area was inundated due to the unmanaged drainage system. Meanwhile, Nepalgunj Municipality said that channels were being cleaned.

Similarly, as many as nine houses were inundated due to heavy rainfall in Khajura Rural Municipality of Bankeeven though water level in the Rapti River was normal.

Banke Chief District Officer Kumar Bahadur Khadka said authorities had urged people to take safety measure to avoid possible incidents due to rainfall. He said that Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been kept on standby to ensure safety and security.

Regular flights from Ranjha Airport of Nepalgunj to the hilly and mountainous districts were  affected due to continuous rainfall.

Nepalgunj Civil Aviation Office Chief Prem Nath Thakur said flights to the remote districts except Dolpa could not take off due to foul weather. He said flights to the himalaya and hilly areas were cancelled due to thick fog and the sub-standard airports there.

Thakur informed that heavy rainfall did not affect for regular flights from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu and Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. He said Buddha, Yeti and Shree Airlines resumed service from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu on a regular basis despite the rainfall.
