MANANG: The snowfall that started early this morning has affected life in the mountainous district disrupting traffic and communication.

Snow measuring four to six inches has accumulated in Chame, the district headquarters of Manang, according to Manang Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Panta.

The snow that had started falling at 3:00 am today morning, has not subsided yet. Locals cannot go out of their houses due to thick layer of snow as temperature has plummeted in the district, especially in the upper parts, Panta added.

Due to the snowfall in the upper parts, the temperature has also dropped in the lower parts of the district.

The telephone tower has become dysfunctional by the snowfall, disturbing communications in the district.

The exorbitant cold and continuous snowfall have also affected the transportation in Manang. The vehicles heading to Manang via Besisahar, the district headquarters of Lamjung, have been stranded. Narayan Bhandari, one of the drivers in the route, said that the snow has deposited on the roads preventing the vehicular movements in the district.

As many as 10 tourists - who had reached upper Manang - have gone out of contact due to the incessant snowfall as indicated by the district administration. The snowfall has put both domestic as well as international tourists visiting the district in a fix.

The locals shared that the weather condition has worsened due to the cold wind induced by the snowfall. Further, the snowfall in Manang has also affected the temperature of the neighbouring Lamjung district, where the mercury level has plunged.
