Spiritual leader Acharya discharged from hospital
Biratnagar, April 29
Sheeniwas Acharya, a Hindu spiritual leader who was undergoing treatment at Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar after being shot at by unknown persons about three weeks ago was discharged today.
On April 8, a group of unidentified persons had opened fire at the spiritual leader at Ram Janaki temple of Jatuwa in Biratnagar metropolis, where he had gone to attend a week-long religious event.
Seriously injured in the shooting, he was then admitted at Biratnagar-based Neuro Hospital for treatment. Following the 21-day long treatment, he was discharged today. He had received bullet in his right arm.
At a press conference today, it was informed that the treatment cost would be borne by the government. The hospital has said his treatment cost 130,000 rupees. After being discharged, Acharya thanked Dr Khaniya and his team who had attended to him at the hospital. He has left for Kathmandu after being discharged.
Meanwhile, Morang police, in the wake of the shooting, detained five persons in connection with the incident. Of them, three were released following preliminary interrogation, while the rest are still in custody. “As for the duo, investigating is still on,” said SP Arun BC.
Acharya is one of the Hindu leaders agitating against the government decision to make the country secular. He is also a patron of Vedic Sanatan Hindu Jagaran Abhiyan.
