BIRATNAGAR: Nepali Congress central member Dr Shekhar Koirala said that the new constitution would be drafted within the given time frame if there is a political consensus among the political parties. Koirala was talking with reporters in Biratnagar on Tuesday.

Koirala pointed out the need for consensus on state restructure and government outline for the timely statute. He added that the tenure of the Constituent Assembly could be extended if the new statute is not drafted in the stipulated time.

Koirala said the newly formed High-Level Political Mechanism (HLMP) under the leadership of Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala is not intended for toppling the government and forming a new one. He advised that the Madhes based parties be inducted into the HLPM.

In another context, Koirala was of the view that the NC is not infavour of ethnic states nor for increasing the number of states as it would be impractical for the nation.
