Hospitals nationwide resume service

Kathmandu, May 28:

Hospitals and nursing homes across the country resumed regular operations today, after closing all but emergency services for three days protesting against vandalising of Everest Nursing Home, Kathmandu, and Lumbini Zonal Hospital, Butwal.

Medical professional had demanded security cover for medical professionals and punishment of those involved in the incidents.

Bharatpur Hospital, Chitwan, and BP Cancer Hospital, Bharatpur, however, have continued with their strike on their own, Dr Kiran Shrestha, general secretary of Nepal Medical Association (NMA), said. “We weren’t aiming at harassing patients but wanted to pressure the government to ensure security of medical professionals.” said Dr Shrestha. Few hospitals in Kathmandu, Pokhara, Nepalgunj and Dharan had resumed their services yesterday following pressure from the patients.

Meanwhile, the High Level Judicial Investigation Commission today visited Satdobato, Koteshwor and Tripureshwor area and interacted with people injured during the Jana Andolan, doctors attending them and local level political leaders.
