House panel chair visits flood-hit in Rajbiraj

Rajbiraj, September 4

The flood victims of Rajbiraj Municipality-5 have complained that they have not received a single penny as relief from the state though three weeks have passed after the devastating flood displaced them in Saptari.

The displaced victims of Mithilatole of the municipality complained to Ranju Jha, the chair of Women, Children and Senior Citizens and Social Welfare Council Committee of the Parliament that they were left in a lurch for want of relief for weeks.

A total of nine houses of the locality had completely collapsed at Mithilatole, while more than a dozen houses were damaged due to the floods on August 11. Cemented houses belonging to Lalan Mishra and Raman Thakur were damaged, while huts belonging to Manu Thapa, Ghuran Mandal and Parbati Mishra, among others, were swept away in the floods.

Mishra and Thakur have taken Rs 4 lakh loan each to rebuild their houses from a local bank putting land as collateral after they didn’t receive any state relief. But Manu, who failed to withdraw loan for want of collateral has been living in tent.

As cracks have developed in the houses at Mithilatole, many houses of the locality are still at high risk. “None of our houses are safe. They may collapse anytime. So, please, take initiatives to relocate us,” urged local Shiva Shankar Das to Jha.
