House revival only way out: Paudel
Kathmandu, October 8:
Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Ram Chandra Paudel today claimed that the demand for the restoration of the House of Representatives was gaining support — both at the national and international levels.
Paudel also came down heavily on the constitutional monarch for trying to evolve as a power centre while the constitution remains in suspended animation. Speaking at a function organised by the Bhaktapur Town Committee of the party, he insisted that the revival of the House of Representatives was the only way out of the protracted political crisis. “There cannot be two powers representing the people. The King is trying to evolve as a power. This is something which cannot be possible under any circumstances,” Paudel said. Insisting that the political parties will not give up until their mission is accomplished, Paudel added that the battle also involves rendering the people fully sovereign. He pointed out at the revival of the House of Representatives as something which could alone be instrumental in restoring the supremacy of the people.
Shedding light on the need to accomplish a number of things which could make the people fully sovereign, Paudel said that the parliament was the only institution which could decide the future course.
