A man hacked his wife to death with an axe at Pasthali of Panauti Municipality-13, Kavre, yesterday night.

Ram Sharan Thapa, 30, hacked his wife Samjhana, 28, to death at around 12:30am yesterday night. Kavre police arrested Ram Sharan today morning.

Preliminary investigation showed that a dispute had broken out between the husband and wife. As Samjhana was about to leave for her parents’ house following the dispute, Ram Sharan, in a fit of rage, attacked her. When she collapsed on the floor, Ram Sharan hacked her with the axe. DSP Nabinraj Rai said that after killing his wife Ram Sharan had tried to kill himself.

After neighbours and locals came to know about the incident, they had reported to the police early morning.

Following the report, a police team led by DSP Rai had caught the culprit.

Ram Sharan is being treated at Shir Memorial Hospital, Banepa under police supervision. Samjhana’s body has been kept at Shir Memorial Hospital for post-mortem.

“An investigation is on,” police said. The Thapa couple has one son and one daughter.
