KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 9

The National Human Rights Commission submitted its annual report to President Bidhya Devi Bhandari today.

Receiving the report, President Bhandari said violation of human rights continued to occur as caste discrimination, domestic violence, chhaupadi existed in society. She said these could be eliminated through economic development, education and awareness programmes.

NHRC Chair Tap Bahadur Magar said people were not able to enjoy human rights due to child marriage, domestic violence, human trafficking, caste discrimination and lack of access to health services.

He also said migrant workers were subjected to labour and sexual exploitation.

He said human rights of migrant workers, deprived communities, indigenous nationalities, differently-abled people, Dalits, women, senior citizens, sexual minorities and victims of natural disasters.
