‘I’m under pressure to contest for top NC post’
Kathmandu, February 22
Nepali Congress General Secretary Prakash Man Singh today said that he was under pressure from party workers to file candidacy for party presidency and thus he was not going to backtrack from his plan to contest for the party’s top post.
Addressing a programme organised by Nepal Students Union to welcome and congratulate newly elected delegates and members of the party’s Kathmandu chapter, Singh said he was capable of leading the party.
“I had become the party’s vice president even after unification of the two Congresses when Girijababu was the party president. I was elected general secretary from 12th National General Convention.
Now, I am preparing for the party presidency and holding consultations for the same,” Singh said.
Rejecting the allegation that his plan for party presidency was unnatural, he said, “How is my plan for party presidency unnatural and the same plan of other leaders natural? If more capable persons emerge for the party presidency, that will be acceptable.
Otherwise, I will move ahead for party presidency as sought by party workers from across the country.” He said he would be able to end the politics of sharing in the party if he emerged as party president.
Another NC leader Shashanka Koirala urged the 13th NGC to be a unity convention as the country might face an accident if the Congress could not unite.
He said he was ready to become Abhimanyu, a legendary character who was killed in Mahabharata, as he expressed his readiness to sacrifice for the sake of the party.
Stating that BP Koirala, his father, and Ganeshman Singh always worked together in the party, he said he would be together with Prakash Man Singh, the son of Ganeshman Singh.
