BIRGUNJ: An elderly person was critically injured when he was hit by a petroleum tanker at Hanuman Mandir Chowk in Inaruwa, Birgunj on Friday morning. Shaakina Khatun, 60, a resident of Chapkaiya-2 of Birgunj sub-metropolitan city, was hit by the tanker heading to Rakshaul from Gandak.

The locals obstructed the roads following the mishap. The reinforcements mobilised from the District Police Office, Parsa were however able to prevent any untoward incidents.

The police detained the driver of the tanker along with his vehicle.

The injured Khatun is undergoing treatment in Narayani Sub-Zonal Hospital in Shakina.
