Incessant rainfall leaves many Sunsari settlements inundated
ITAHARI: Flood in various rivulets of Sunsari district, triggered by an overnight incessant rainfall on Sunday, inundated many of the settlements in the district.
At least 63 houses in different places of Amaduwa VDC were submerged due to increased water flow in local Dhamuna River.
A total of 27 houses have been inundated in Amaduwa-5 while 22 houses in Amaduwa-7 and 14 houses in Amaduwa-4 have been submerged.
A cow and an ox inside the shed of Bijay Gurung in Amaduwa-5 drowned in the flood.
Similarly, a swollen Tengra River inundated 34 houses in Amahibela-4 and 22 in Amahibela-5 of the district.
According to the Sunsari District Police Office, nine houses at west Kushaha-9 have been waterlogged due to lack of outlet.
Swift increase of water level in Budhi Khola River also resulted into inundation in Amahibela-8.
After flood water gushed into their houses, people have moved to highlands while they have released their livestock.They have been facing problems after the flood water soaked their clothes and food grains stored at houses.
Superintendent of Police, Poshraj Pokharel, said that water level in the Saptakoshi River, the biggest of the nation, has been gauged at 22,905 cusec at 6:00 am on Monday. As many as 30 sluice gates of the Koshi Barrage have been opened to drain out the water.
