Independence Day greetings sent to Modi
KATHMANDU, August 14
On the occasion of the 69th Independence Day of India, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala has extended greetings to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of India.
Issuing a statement, PM Koirala said, “The Independence of India in 1947 was a landmark event of the 20th century. This day heralded the beginning of liberation and freedom from the yoke of colonialism and subjugation for many countries and people in Asia and Africa, and enabled them to join the comity of nations.”
PM Koirala said the association of late BP Koirala with the Indian independence movement demonstrated ‘our common commitment to the noble cause of independence and self-dignity’.
Recalling Indian PM Modi’s visits to Nepal last year, PM Koirala said the government and people of Nepal deeply cherished the visits that he undertook last year. “The visits have immensely contributed in further strengthening the existing warm, close and friendly ties between our two countries and peoples,” PM Koirala said in his statement.
“The people of Nepal rejoice in the achievements of India in various fields as the largest democracy and one of the rapidly emerging economic powerhouses of the 21st century,” he said, thanking Modi for India’s continued support on Nepal’s constitution writing process.
