KAPILVASTU: Independent candidate Nisar Ahamed has been elected chairman of the Suddhodan Rural Municipality in Kapilvastu district on Sunday.

Ahamed garnered 1,837 votes while his nearest rival, another independent candidate Kamalesh Sharan Chaudhary received 1,763 votes.

Meanwhile, Sudha Pandey of Nepali Congress was elected the vice chairperson of the rural municipality securing 2,635 votes. Her nearest rival Bimala Chaudhary of the Federal Socialist Forum mustered 1,764 votes.
