India denies firing by Sashastra Seema Bal personnel in Kanchanpur
KATHMANDU: India denied that its Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel opened fire on Nepalis in Ananda Bazaar of Kanchanpur district near the Nepal-India border today.
In response to media reports that a Nepali was killed after hitting by the bullets fired from the border security personnel, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu issued a statement and said "It is categorically denied that there was any incident of firing by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). "
The three-sentence statement has further suggested that the land where the Nepali side was constructing a culvert was a disputed area and there should have been an agreement between the two nations before carrying out the construction.
"There is a need to maintain calm and let the survey officials of both sides discuss the location of border pillars before any construction work is undertaken. District Officials have been directed to cooperate to defuse the situation.”
