KATHMANDU, MAY 2

The Government of India has expressed deep sorrow over the death of a Nepali student at KIIT University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

The deceased has been identified as Prisa Sah of Parsa Birgunj, a first-year B.Tech student majoring in Computer Science. The case is being investigated as an alleged case of suicide.

In a press release issued on Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that it has been in constant communication with the Odisha State Government since learning of the incident. The Odisha government, according to MEA, has extended full support to the family, while the Odisha Police has launched a thorough investigation.

"The Government of India takes the safety, security, and well-being of all international students very seriously," the MEA said, adding that it remains in close coordination with Nepali authorities, Odisha State Government, and KIIT University management to ensure real-time communication and coordination in this matter.

The tragic death of the student has once again brought attention to the safety of Nepali students studying in India, particularly at KIIT University, where a similar incident occurred just months ago.
