KATHMANDU, JULY 31
A new operation theatre building constructed with financial assistance from the Government of India has been inaugurated at Rapti Eye Hospital in Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City-4, Dang, with officials saying the facility will help strengthen eye care services in the region.
The double-storey building was jointly inaugurated on Thursday by Gitanjali Brandon, Counsellor at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, and Tikaram Khadka, Mayor of Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City, according to a press release issued by the Indian Embassy.
The project was implemented through Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan City under India's High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) programme. It is the seventh HICDP completed in Dang district.
Speaking at the inauguration, the mayor, hospital management and other stakeholders appreciated India's development assistance, stating that the new infrastructure would enhance the hospital's capacity to provide specialised eye care services to people in Dang and neighbouring districts.
According to the embassy, India has undertaken nearly 600 High Impact Community Development Projects across all seven provinces of Nepal since the programme began. Of these, 66 projects are located in Lumbini Province, including seven in Dang.
The embassy also said India has provided 169 ambulances and 59 school buses to health and educational institutions across Lumbini Province. Dang district alone has received 19 ambulances and eight school buses, while Rapti Eye Hospital was provided an ambulance in January 2022.
The Indian Embassy said the implementation of HICDPs reflects the continued cooperation between Nepal and India in supporting infrastructure development and strengthening public services in priority sectors, including health and education.
