A dormitory building constructed with financial assistance from the Government of India for the Lowo Nyiphug Namdrol Norbuling Monastic School in Lomanthang Rural Municipality-1, Mustang, was jointly inaugurated on Tuesday.
The facility was inaugurated by Naveen Srivastava and Tashi Nharbu Gurung.
Built under India's High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) programme, the project comprises a two-storey dormitory building with four blocks and allied facilities. The project was implemented through Lomanthang Rural Municipality.
According to a press release issued by the Indian Embassy, the monastic school has played an important role in preserving Mustang's cultural heritage by providing Buddhist education alongside the national curriculum prescribed by the Government of Nepal.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Srivastava reiterated India's commitment to supporting Nepal's development and prosperity through close cooperation. Local representatives and school management expressed gratitude to the Government of India, stating that the new infrastructure would significantly improve accommodation facilities and the overall learning environment for students.
Since the launch of the HICDP programme, India has undertaken nearly 600 development projects across Nepal's seven provinces and 74 districts. Of these, 63 projects are located in Gandaki Province, including 18 in Mustang district. India has also provided 126 ambulances and 52 school buses to health and educational institutions in Gandaki Province, including 11 ambulances and six school buses in Mustang.
The Indian Embassy said the project reflects the continued partnership between Nepal and India in promoting infrastructure development and community welfare in priority sectors.
