India positive about ex-Gurkha issues
BUTWAL: Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae has said his government was positive towards addressing the problems of Nepalis who served in the Indian Army. Addressing a gathering of ex-Indian Army personnel in Butwal on Friday, Rae said the Government of India should treat equally to its past servicemen. He pledged maximum efforts on his part to ensure benefits to ex-Gurkhas at par with the Indians. Besides, he vowed to take initiatives for settling some of the bilateral problems through the government level. Nepalis serving in the Indian Army have a significant role in consolidating bilateral ties, said Rae, adding that Nepal and India have been enjoying friendly relations since a long time and that India would leave no stone unturned to strengthen the ties. CA members Balkrishna Khand, Bishnu Poudel and Dilman Pakhrim praised the contributions of Nepalis in the Indian Army.
School closed by Swine flu
DOLPA: A school in Kalika VDC in Dolpa has been closed indefinitely due to threat of swine flu outbreak. Kalika Secondary School was closed indefinitely since Thursday after students fainted in the school assembly, local Bir Bahadur Thapa said. Tenth grader Tirtha Shahi and Parbati Bohora, who fainted in the school assembly, have been receiving treatment at a local health facility. Kalik VDC shares border with Jajarkot where at least 29 people have died of the influenza outbreak.
Ilam fully immunised
ILAM: Ilam was declared a fully immunised district on Friday. Ilam has become the second district after Dhankuta in the eastern region and eighth in the country where all children have been fully vaccinated. Minister for Health and Population Khagraj Adhikari administered polio vaccine to a one-year-old girl before declaring Ilam a fully immunised district. Adhikari handed over certificate to Madan Koirala, Chairman of National Immunisation Coordination Committee, certifying that all 43 VDCs and there municipalities in Ilam are fully immunised.
