Indian army chief to visit Nepal next week

KATHMANDU: Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat will visit Nepal next week to receive an honorary general title of the Nepali Army.

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari will confer the title amidst a ceremony in Shital Niwas.

An official of the Ministry of Defence confirmed Gen Rawat’s visit would be from March 28 to 31. Gen Rawat will also visit the Indian army’s pension paying camps in Pokhara and the Muktinath temple in Mustang.

He is also set to call on Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Defence Minister Bal Krishna Khand, according to the PM’s Press Adviser Govinda Acharya. He will also hold talks with his Nepali counterpart Gen Rajendra Chhetri.

It’s a long-held tradition between the two armies to confer the title of honorary general to each other’s army chiefs.
