Indian assistance for solar electrification

Kathmandu, December 24:

As many as 630 households in Jaljale VDC of Tehrathum district have received home lighting system under the solar electrification project of the government of India.

A statement issued by the embassy today stated that each household received a solar panel, maintenance free battery and home lighting system of 75 watt with additional four lighting instruments of 12 watt each under project. The government of India has provided assistance worth Rs 34.54 million for the project.

The Central Electronic Ltd, Ghaziabad, a public sector undertaking of the government of India through the Alternative Environment Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) under the Ministry of Science and Technology has executed the project. A pool of six personnel have been trained from among the villagers for maintenance of the system. The maintenance cost is expected to be covered from the interest of a corpus fund which has been created by local contribution and has been invested in the local bank. The villagers have formed a Gaon Upabhokta Samiti to oversee project.
