KATHMANDU, JANUARY 3

Indian External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, is scheduled to visit Nepal at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs N.P. Saud on January 4. The purpose of the visit is to co-chair the 7th meeting of the India-Nepal Joint Commission.

The visit is planned to last until January 5.

The India-Nepal Joint Commission was established in 1987 and provides a platform for both Ministers to review all aspects of the bilateral partnership.

During the visit, EAM Jaishankar will also call on the leadership of Nepal and meet prominent political figures, according to the statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

Nepal is a priority partner of India under its 'Neigbhbourhood First'policy. The visit is in keeping with the tradition of high level exchanges between two close and friendly neighbours, the statement said.
