Indian foreign secretary arriving today
Kathmandu, September 17
Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar will visit Kathmandu tomorrow as a special envoy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Indian Embassy Spokesperson Abhay Kumar told THT that Jaishankar would meet all top political leaders and officials of Nepal, including Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and President Ram Baran Yadav, during his two day stay.
India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Ranjit Rae, who is in New Delhi, will be accompanying Jaishankar, Kumar added.
A top aide of PM Koirala told The Himalayan Times that the government expected Jaishankar to convey Modi’s message in line with Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s September 14 statement that welcomed the voting process in the CA but stressed the need for dialogue and flexibility to incorporate the issues of disgruntled and agitating forces in the new constitution.
After landing in Kathmandu tomorrow, Jaishankar will meet PM Koirala, President Ram Baran Yadav, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Jaishankar will also meet top leaders of agitating Madhesi and Tharu parties, including MJF-D Chairman Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar.
He will return home on Saturday, a day before the scheduled promulgation of the new constitution.
The PM’s aide said he wished Jaishankar would extend his schedule and witness the announcement of the commencement of the new constitution on Sunday.
