Reaffirms India's commitment to Nepal's peace and prosperity

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 12

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his best wishes to Nepal's newly appointed interim Prime Minister, Sushila Karki, expressing India's steadfast support for Nepal's peace and progress.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Modi wrote, "I extend my best wishes to Right Hon. Mrs. Sushila Karki on assuming office as the Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal. India remains firmly committed to the peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Nepal."

Modi's message follows an earlier statement by India's Ministry of External Affairs welcoming the formation of the interim government led by Karki.

Karki, Nepal's first woman to hold the post, was sworn in on Friday night. Her administration is tasked with steering the country toward new parliamentary elections within six months, a move prompted by weeks of Gen-Z–led protests demanding political reforms and a non-partisan government.
