A Nepali national has been injured following physical assault by Indian border security personnel at Matiarwa Indo-Nepal border in Bara, on Tuesday.

Bhulan Thakur, 16, of Kalaiya submetropolis-10 was headed to Aadarpur Bazar in India via the Matiarwa border during which he was physically assaulted by India's border security personnel.

A local claimed that Thakur had sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident.

The injured has been taken to Birgunj-based Narayani Hospital for treatment.

Relatives of the assaulted teenager took to the incident site and staged vehement demonstrations while also blocking the main entrance gate of the border. They demanded that action be taken against the guilty Indian security personnel.

Security has been beefed up on both sides of the border in order to control the situation.

Meawhile, Bara police stated that negotiations are underway between border security representatives from both nations, to peacefully resolve the matter.
