Infrastructure crunch hits services
Khotang, August 28
Due to infrastructure crunch, three government offices are being operated from a single building in Khotehang Rural Municipality and the same is the case with Jantedhunga Rural Municipality in Khotang.
Health Post, Livestock Office and Postal Office are providing services from the same building in Lichkiramche of Khotehang Rural Municipality-9 and Dambakhurshibalaya of Jantedhunga Rural Municipality-4.
Employees at the rural municipalities are a having hard time rendering service from congested and narrow rooms.
In Lichkiramche, the dilapidated building damaged by the 2015 earthquake has a health post on its ground floor and postal office and livestock office in two rooms on the upper floor.
Ward Chair Gopi Rai said lack of separate building for health post had hit the delivery of health services very hard. Locals said that Hari Bahadur Basnet, a local of the rural municipality, had donated two ropani land for the health post building but the building could not be constructed due to lack of budget. “Three offices are providing their services from the same building,” Rai said. He said they were planning to construct separate building for ward office and after that the problem would be solved to some extent.
According to Rai, three government offices are rendering services from the old building of then VDC in Lichkiramche.
The condition of Dambakhurshibalaya is no different. Three offices are operated from a three-room dilapidated building. Dambarkhushibalaya ward chair Bidurman Rai said that three offices were run from the same old building for want of separate building.
Similarly, a police post and a grinding mill are being operated from the same building in Baplukha of Khotehang Rural Municipality-2. One room of the building is used for operating the mill and the remaining two rooms are used by the police post. Due to continuous noise from the mill, the police post is having a tough time providing services.
