Injured campus chief taken to capital

BHOJPUR: Chief of Bhojpur Multiple Campus Parvat Kumar Rai, who sustained critical injuries in the attack of Maoist students, was taken to the capital for further treatment today.

Cadres of Maoist-affiliated All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary, who have been demanding his resignation, badly beat him up in the campus premises yesterday.

Rai, who was admitted to Bhojpur Hospital and had 18 stitches on his wounds was airlifted to Kathmandu.

A group led by ANNISU-R district chairperson Sunita Rai had attacked the chief with bamboo sticks while he was holding discussion over the operation of regular exams in the office of assistant campus chief.

Police said they have arrested Sunita today. However, there is no word over the arrest of other Maoist students involved in the incident.

In the wake of the incident, the campus administration said it had closed the campus for an indefinite period.

Likewise, the BA second year examinations that was to start from Wednesday, has been postponed until further notice, said Hari Dahal of the exam section.

Meanwhile, campus units of Nepal University Teachers Association and Nepal Progressive University Teachers Association, in press statements today, condemned the incident an demanded that the perpetrators be brought to books.
