IGP Khanal vows to book Nirmala Panta's murderer(s)

KATHMANDU: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sarbendra Khanal today has pledged to take action against the perpetrator(s) involved in the rape and murder of Nirmala Panta in Kanchanpur on July 26.

"The criminal(s) will be booked. An expert team is undertaking investigations into the rape and murder case," the IGP told Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

Khanal reached the district to take part in the national campaign related to 'minimisation of Violence Against Women and Human Rights Protection' beginning today from Bhimdattanagar.

On the occasion, he expressed his confidence that the national campaign to be launched by Nepal Police in coordination with National Human Rights Commission would help control crime.

IGP Khanal said, "We will move ahead coordinating with all social organisations including rights activists and civil society. The campaign will be helpful to ensure victims' access to justice."

On Thursday evening, IGP Khanal had met with family members of Nirmala Panta and also made onsite inspection of the incident site.
