BARA, NOVEMBER 14

Rape cases are on the rise in the Bara district.

According to statistics provided by the Bara District Police Office, 117 incidents were reported to the police in the last three years.

Thirty three cases of rape were reported in fiscal year 2075/76, with 29 suspects detained and 18 at large, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gautam Mishra of the District Police Office, Bara.

Similarly, 44 cases were filed in FY 2076/77, with 37 suspects apprehended and 11 still on the run.

In fiscal year 2077/78, 40 instances were reported, of which 24 culprits were arrested while 24 are still on the loose.

By the end of the Asoj of this fiscal year, 11 instances of rape had been registered, of which seven had been apprehended and four were still at large, according to DSP Mishra.

According to Mishra, there are still a lot of instances of sexual assault that haven't been reported. A lot of such cases rape in rural communities go unreported because many perpetrators seek to 'resolve the issue' using force and money.

However, if the authorities receive information that an attempt to mediate a rape case outside of court has been made, the case is promptly registered, and individuals who undertake such acts are charged, Mishra clarified.
