KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 16
A team of climbers from USA, Switzerland and Nepal successfully scaled Mt Ganchenpo in Sindhupalchowk.
According to Pemba Rita Sherpa, an IFMGA guide and climber from Rolwaling, their team stood atop 6,378-metre peak on 13th November at around 11:30am.
"This is the first ever team of international climbers making it to the top of Mt Ganchenpo from the South East Ridge," Sherpa said.
The climbers who made it to the summit of the scenic mountain include Luke Smithwick and Stephen from the USA as well as Caroline from the Switzerland. Renowned climbers including Sanu Sherpa (double 14 peaks), IFMGA guide Pemba Rita Sherpa and Lakpa Dindup Sherpa stood at the top of mountain along with the foreign climbers.
The Himalayan Alpine Guides, USA along with Himalaya Summit Club, Nepal organised the expedition, according to Pemba Rita.
A very few Nepali climbers had scaled the peak earlier while this was the first team of international climbers reaching the top of Mt Ganchenpo this season, he added.
