UDAYPUR: Locals of Katari Bazaar obstructed vehicular movement at Siddhicharan Highway after a freight truck hit and killed a minor on Wednesday.

The truck (Na 4 Kha 8898) plying on Katari Ghurmi road section welted 4-year-old Mausam Rai of Katari Municipality-5 to death causing a furore.

Following the incident, the locals took to the streets and demonstrated, with the boy’s body lying on the road, demanding action against the truck driver who they accuse of negligence.

According to local Shatrudhan Karki, a meeting led by Katari Municipality Mayor Gyanendra Kumar Shrestha and including representatives from security agencies, district administration failed to settle the issue as the freight truck owner did not come in contact.

Meanwhile, police officials have detained the driver and impounded the vehicle, and initiated an investigation into the matter.

Also, vehicular movement along the highway has resumed following the arrest.
