IRCT flays activist’s detention
Kathmandu: The International Rehabilitation Council for Torture Victims has condemned the detention of the council’s president Dr Bhogendra Sharma, who was observing an ‘anti-regression’ demonstration by the five political parties in Kathmandu yesterday, in a statement issued on Sunday. “The IRCT condemns the arrest of Dr Sharma and other staffers and board members of CVICT. It is absolutely unacceptable that the Nepali authorities arrested Dr Sharma and attempted to silence the voice of the global movement against torture,” said Dr Margriet Blaauw, medical director of IRCT, from the organisation’s headquarters in Copenhagen. — HNS
