It should stay, says Bhattarai

KATHMANDU: At a time when the government and other party leaders have been raising serious questions about the role of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) in Nepal’s peace process, Vice-Chairman of the Unified CPN-Maoist Dr Baburam Bhattarai today said that the UN body should stay until the peace process achieves a logical end.

“UNMIN’s presence is essential until the peace process achieves a logical conclusion,” Biswodip Pande quoted Dr Bhattarai as saying to UNMIN chief Karin Landgren during a meeting this morning between the duo.

The meeting took place at

Dr Bhattarai’s residence in Shantinagar. Dr Bhattarai also informed Landgren that army integration and

the constitution making processes should move hand in hand.

UNMIN chief Landgren expressed concerns about the confusion

hovering over the ongoing peace process and the role of the UCPN-Maoist to lead the peace process to

the logical conclusion.
