Jana Andolan-II victim to be taken abroad for treatment

Kavre, March 1:

The local administration and political parties here today agreed to make arrangements to send Mukesh Kayastha, who was injured during the Jana Andolan-II in Banepa, abroad for further treatment.

Earlier, a pressure group had called Banepa bandh to draw attention of the local administration regarding Mukesh’s treatment and care at a local hospital.

The strike was called off later after the agreement was reached.

A committee led by local Nepali Congress leader Kanchan Chandra Bade was formed to take Mukesh to a foreign country for treatment. It has been decided to keep Mukesh in palliative care at Sheer Memorial Hospital for the time being.

Kavre CDO Sitaram Pokhrel said he would write to the home ministry for Mukesh’s full treatment.

Mukesh, who was discharged from the Bir Hospital and taken to Banepa on Monday, is partially conscious.

Mukesh, a grade VIII student in local Bidhya Sagar Boarding School, was critically injured when a bullet hit his left temple at Tindobato in Banepa on April 9, 2006.

He cannot speak and his legs and left hand do not function. Mukesh’s family members bemoaned that except for Rs 9.5 lakhs the government did not provide any assistance. They said the amount provided by government could cover the medical expense up to August 2006 and they have been managing money for Mukesh’s treatment with assistance from various organisations.

“The government did not show any concern to send Mukesh to a foreign country for his treatment,” Mukesh’s father Krishna Man said. Mukesh is the only son of Krishna Man.
