KATHMANDU, MAY 27
The Government of Japan has supported the construction of a new classroom building for Shree Bheri Tribeni Secondary School in Jajarkot district.
According to the Embassy of Japan in Nepal, the handover ceremony of the newly constructed school building was held on Tuesday in the presence of Deputy Chief of Mission Shinto Yasuharu.
The project, titled "The Project for the Reconstruction of Classrooms for SBTSS in Jajarkot District," was implemented under Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) with financial support of 170,159 US dollars, equivalent to around Rs 22.7 million.
The embassy stated that the school building was reconstructed after the previous structure was completely destroyed in the November 2023 earthquake.
Established in 1985, the school serves nearly 500 students from Jajarkot and neighbouring districts. The newly built 12-room classroom block is expected to provide a safer and improved learning environment for students.
Speaking at the ceremony, Yasuharu appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders involved in the reconstruction project and expressed confidence that the new infrastructure would contribute to quality education and strengthen people-to-people ties between Nepal and Japan.
The project was implemented by Volunteer Corps Nepal, a non-governmental organisation working in socio-educational development, disaster relief and volunteer activities since 2018.
The embassy noted that Japan's GGP programme has supported more than 200 grassroots-level projects in Nepal since 1991.
