Japan’s women parliamentarians on a two-day visit to Kathmandu
Kathmandu, August 30
A delegation of Japan’s women parliamentarians led by Tomomi Inada, Chief Deputy Secretary-General of Liberal Democratic Party and former minister of defence, is on a visit to Nepal from August 29 to 31.
The team includes Fusae Ota, member, House of Councillors, and Mio Sugita, member, House of Representatives.
During the official visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and Minister of Women, Children and Senior Citizens Tham Maya Thapa.
They discussed about issues on women empowerment and promotion of international exchange between women parliamentarians of both the countries in the near future.
They also talked about issues of mutual interest and cordial relation between Nepal and Japan since the establishment of bilateral relations in 1956, said the Embassy of Japan in Nepal.
Recalling the visit by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Taro Kono’s in January this year, the delegation stressed on strengthening bilateral relationship through people-to-people exchange and exchanges of parliamentarians between the two countries.
The delegation also visited Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital at Thapathali. Japan government had supported reconstruction and expansion of the hospital under its project ‘Rehabilitation and Recovery of Nepal from Earthquakes in 2015.’ The project was completed in May.
Lawmaker Surendra Prasad Pandey, chairperson of Nepal-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group, hosted a dinner in honour of the delegation.
Likewise, the delegation attended a promotional event of launching direct flights to Japan, organised by Nepal Airlines and Visit Nepal 2020 campaign and co-organised by the Embassy of Japan and Nepal Tourism Board.
