JHAPA, JULY 29

Ten local levels in Jhapa have been sealed in view of the growing COVID-19 cases.

In the wake of increasing COVID-19 cases, Mechinagar, Haldibari, Buddhashani, Kankai, Kamal, Damak, Gauradaha, Shibasatakshi, Arjundhara and Birtamod have been sealed off. Similarly, the remaining local levels, namely Bhadrapur, Gaurigunj, Bahradashi, Jhapa and Kachankawal are also said to be mulling over introducing some form of restrictions in view of the increasing cases of the virus.

According to Chief District Officer Shawan Kumar Timsina, the local levels are entitled to seal off the area under their jurisdiction on their own by realising the emergency preparedness in the midst of a surge in virus cases.

He said the decision to seal off the local levels was taken with the approval of the district COVID-19 Prevention, Control and Management Committee. He also urged the public, professionals and entrepreneurs to follow health safety measures and help implement the virus restrictions.

As per the recent figure, 1,123 persons have been diagnosed positive for the virus in the district in the past four days, with 10 fatalities during the same period.
