Journalists float Pokhara Carta

A conclave of journalists here has drafted the Pokhara Declaration comprising several demands.
The draft was prepared today by 60 journalists from 23 districts, as a note of conclusion to the two-day workshop on conflict news gathering.
Demands included amendment in the code of conduct and insurance and security for journalists working in conflict-hit areas.
They journalists have sought training to enhance their professional skills and called for no interference to facilitate decentralisation of information flow.
Former FNJ chairman Taranath Dahal said journalists were not in a position to report freely. He added that despite abiding by the code of conduct, journalists were being denied constitutional and legal rights.
Journalist Dhruv Hari Adhikari said newspersons should not waver from their duty even in the time of conflict.
