Journos get decapitation threat
PHIDIM: Journalists in Panchthar has drawn attention of the concerned authorities to a recent threat of Sanghiya Limbuwan Rajya Parishad-affiliated Democratic National Forum. The activists of the ethnic group recently threatened of decapitating journalists in the district.
They have demanded security of journalists and action against those threatening the journalists.
At a meet in Phidim Bazaar yesterday, central chairman of the forum, Mitra Lingden, had warned that they would behead the journalists of Panchthar Times, Kantipur daily and Radio Menchayam after the latter carried out news about the group’s extortion drive.
The leaders of the Limbuwan group also warned of physical action against those opposing their donation demands, the journalists said. “The Limbuwan leaders have been spitting venom against the mediapersons but the authorities are conspicuously silent over it,” the journalists accused.
Meanwhile, the journalists have written to the group seeking apologies from its leader. They also warned of strong protests if such threats continued. They also submitted a memorandum to Chief District Officer Dullraj Basnet.
