Journos to launch agitation
Itahari, March 27:
The journalists of Sunsari have decided to launch an agitation demanding action against the treasurer of the Maoist aligned Joint Trade Entrepreneurs’ Association, Ritesh Shrestha, who
had issued death threats to nine local journalists in a public programme yesterday.
Shrestha had threatened to kill the journalists expressing his dissatisfaction over a news article in the all-party discussion programme organised by the Area Police Office, Itahari, about controlling improper and vulgar activities in hotels and restaurants. A meeting of local journalists held in the office of Sunsari chapter of the FNJ today decided to launch an agitation if action was not initiated against Shrestha immediately.
FNJ Sunsari has decided to serve an ultimatum to the Sunsari District Administration Office on Thursday and organise a corner meet in Itahari the same day as the first phase protest programme, secretary of the FNJ Sunsari Rishi Rai said. He said further protest plans would be announced if the administration didn’t initiate action against Shrestha.
Meanwhile, FNJ general secretary Mahendra Bista, in a statement today, demanded stern action against Shrestha, who threatened to kill the journalists at a programme. Similarly, over two dozen local organisations have demanded action against Shrestha.
However, Shrestha claimed that he didn’t threaten the journalists. Issuing a statement today, Shrestha urged the concerned agency to investigate the incident.
