Legendary climber Kami Rita today broke his own record by scaling the world's highest peak for the 26th time.
Kami Rita, 52, made the 26th successful ascent of Mt Everest at 6:55pm today as a leader of the rope fixing team, along with 11 other climbing Sherpas, said Mingma Sherpa, Chairman at Seven Summit Treks.
Kami Rita, who is working as a Senior Climbing Guide at Seven Summit Treks Pvt Ltd, had scaled the Mt Everest for the first time in 1994 May 13.
Between 1994 to 2022 he scaled the peak 26 times, K2 and Lhotse one time, Manaslu thrice, and Cho Oyu eight times. Kami Rita Sherpa, as such, holds the record for 'Most climbs over 8000m'.
As many as 121 climbing Sherpas from Seven Summit Treks under the management of Expedition Operators of Nepal (EOAN) have reached the top of Mt Everest, becoming the first climbers of the season to scale the world's highest mountain from the Nepal side, Sherpa added.
With the opening of a route to the summit point, more than 300 foreign climbers along with their support staff will attempt to climb the world's highest peak in coming days, Damber Parajuli, Chairman at EOAN said.
Rope fixing team members who scaled Mt Everest this evening include Sona Sherpa, Ngima Tashi Sherpa, Phurba Tsering Sherpa, Tenjing Gyaljen Sherpa, Lakpa Tenji Sherpa, Phurba Kusang Sherpa, Mingma Dandhu Sherpa, Pastenji Sherpa, Tareman Tamang and Phurba Chhotar Sherpa, according to Seven Summit Treks.
The route from base camp to Camp II was be fixed by the sherpas (icefall doctors) deployed by Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee and fixing the route from Camp II to the summit of Everest and Lhotse has been assigned to the Sherpas from Seven Summit Treks.
According to the department of tourism, at least 316 members from different 39 teams have obtained permit for Everest and 112 members for Mt Lhotse this season.
