Kanchanpur farmers demand compensation on elephant's menace

KANCHANPUR: Local people of Purnabas Municipality-14 in Kanchanpur district have lodged a complaint with the District Forest Office, saying that they should be compensated for their crops and paddy destroyed by wild elephants, on Wednesday.

Wild elephants straying into Nepal from Dudhuwa National Park in India, have been destroying ripen paddy in the village they have planted for the past one month.

A local resident Gopal Gurung said that they lodged the complaint after District Administration Office had neglected the repeated calls of villagers to control the elephant menace.

The elephants have destroyed crops in paddy fields belonging to about 300 farmers in Baisebichawa and Shankarpur areas, Gurung was found saying to Rastriya Samachar Samiti.
