Karnali continues to be neglected in federal Nepal: Kunwar

JUMLA: Minister for State without portfolio Goma Kunwar has said that the neglect towards Karnali continues even after the country adopted a federal system of governance.

Like the centre ignored Karnali, the regional leadership too is neglecting us. As a result, the federal system has become meaningless, said Kunwar.

Likewise, UML youth leader Menaka Pachaai said minimal number of leaders were appointed as proportional representation MPs as a result of the prejudice of the provincial leadership. "There is no sense of federalism in Karnali as a result of the attitude and conduct of the leadership," Menaka said.

Congress leader and Chief of Chandannath municipality in Jumla Kanti Sejuwal said though the NC has done justice in the election of PR MPs, the UML and the CPN-MC have ignored the Karnali region. It is also because there is no representation of Karnali at the centre itself.

In the 40-member provincial assembly of province 6, only four people are likely to be appointed from the entire Karnali region. As there only five recommended by NC, none from the CPN-MC and six from the CPN-UML to the provincial assembly of Province- 6 that covers five districts of Karnali.
