POKHARA: The Kaski district has been declared the 14th fully literate district of the country.

Minister for Education Chitralekha Yadav announced so amid a programme organised in Pokhara today.

The literacy rate in Kaski district, where there are 418 community schools and 215 institutional schools and 15 colleges, stood at 96.3 per cent, it was shared.

The government announces fully declared district to the ones crossing over 95 per cent literacy rate.

Of the total population of 327,210 in the district, 315,125 people from 15 to 60 years were recorded to be literate.

Speaking at the programme, Minister Yadav urged on the government to prioritise education as the basic infrastructure for the development of the districts.

She believed that since the budget for the Fiscal Year 2072/073 had incorporated the provision of the 'golden hand shake' for the temporary teachers, the problems concerning them would be resolved.

Minister Yadav further shared that the government was to build residential schools in mofussil, benefitting parents, students and teachers.

Also, speaking in the programme, Minister for Health and Population Khagaraj Adhikari shared that a proposal approved by the Council of Ministers to establish a Health Sciences Foundation in Pokhara was furthered in the Legislature-Parliament for deliberation.

On the occasion, Secretary at the Ministry of Education Bishwa Prakash Padit rewarded the Kaski district with Rs 500,000 as a motivational prize.

Kaski district achieved the feat due to the Informal Education Centre introduced by the Ministry of Education.
