Everest Alliance Nepal opens registration as the second edition shifts focus to innovation and sustainable Himalayan futures

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 29

Kathmandu will host the second edition of the Everest Summiteers Summit on May 27, 2026, with organisers placing strong emphasis on Himalayan innovation, sustainability and the future of high-altitude expeditions.

Everest Alliance Nepal (EAN) announced that the one-day summit will coincide with International Everest Day, commemorating the first ascent of Mount Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary. The event will be held under the theme "Himalayan Innovation for a Sustainable Future."

Building on the inaugural summit held in 2025, the 2026 edition is expected to bring together Everest summiteers from Nepal and abroad, along with policymakers, conservation leaders, mountaineering institutions, tourism professionals, researchers and international partners. Organisers said the forum will facilitate high-level discussions on climber safety, climate change, sustainable tourism and policy reform related to Himalayan expeditions.

EAN said the first summit, themed "Honoring the Legends, Inspiring the Future," was widely recognised as a milestone event in Nepal's mountaineering calendar, helping strengthen international collaboration and reinforce Nepal's role in global mountain stewardship.

Unlike the previous edition, the upcoming summit will place greater focus on forward-looking agendas, including ethical and community-centred tourism, preservation of first-hand summit narratives, waste management in high-altitude regions, glacial retreat and the welfare of climbers and mountain workers.

Sessions will feature keynote addresses, expert panels and policy dialogues led by Everest summiteers, national experts and international institutional leaders.

EAN has opened registration for the summit, inviting Everest summiteers worldwide as well as institutions and individuals interested in participating in what it describes as a global platform for the sustainable future of the Himalayas.

Everest Alliance Nepal is a national collective platform of Everest summiteers and mountain professionals advocating for climber safety, environmental sustainability and ethical mountaineering, while promoting Nepal's leadership in global Himalayan conservation.
